“FLEETING IMAGES”

Doukanaris’ work addresses the notion of collective and individual trauma and its relationship with identity, memory, and space. Doukanaris addresses these notions through a unique and meticulous process he gradually developed, where he removes threads from the canvas leaving behind intricate patterns. By removing matter, Doukanaris essentially turns the canvas into a transparent one, introducing to the work a new dimension that perpetually shifts and adopts to/from the surrounding space. Eventually this becomes an exploration of different – and sometimes conflicting – identities, simultaneously questioning and expanding the strict categorical limits of painting.
